I can’t quite pinpoint the exact moment I had my first taste of Nutella liqueur. It feels like it wasn’t too long ago, definitely before I became a mum. I vividly recall a lazy Easter afternoon spent in Italy, surrounded by family and feasting on a sumptuous lunch. As I lounged on a swing seat, barely able to keep my eyes open, someone slipped a small glass of chocolate heaven into my hand. One sip, and I was hooked. I’ve always had a soft spot for Nutella, but combining it with a splash of alcohol? That’s next-level bliss. I begged my aunt for the recipe, and she graciously shared it with me. It took me a while to recreate it myself, mainly because finding 95% food-grade alcohol outside of Italy was like searching for a needle in a haystack. I experimented with vodka in the meantime, and it turned out pretty decent. But when I finally managed to get my hands on a bottle of 90% alcohol, let me tell you, it was a game-changer! The flavour explosion was out of this world. Everyone who’s tried it agrees—Nutella liqueur, or Nutellino as we call it in Italy, is an absolute must-try.
